Matcha preparation

While the traditional method of preparing matcha is a ritual lasting over an hour, you can make it in just a few moments at home—and in various ways!

Traditional
The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku. Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 30 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.

Contemporary
Mixing your matcha with a milk frother is just as easy. Add a flat teaspoon of matcha (1,5g) to a cup or glass and pour over with 100ml of hot water. Mix well and add more water. 1 teaspoon will usually give you 200-250ml of matcha drink. Just like with coffee, some people like to drink a strong matcha espresso, others prefer to add more water. You can also mix matcha with juice or milk.

With glass shaker
You can prepare your Moya Matcha To Go!  incredibly fast in a Moya Glass Shaker or in a regular bottle: just add matcha to juice, water or milk & shake it vigorously for 5 seconds.

Matcha Latte Preparation
Mix one teaspoon of matcha with a small portion of hot water. Add hot vegetable or cow milk. You can sweeten your matcha latte with a spoon of honey, maple syrup or agave nectar

Moya Matcha Culinary

Moya Matcha Culinary comes from the third and final harvest of tea leaves, grown under special shade covers that protect them from the sun. This process enhances their chlorophyll and theanine levels, while giving the leaves a rich, vibrant green colour. Once fully matured, the leaves are hand-picked, gently dried, and stone-ground into a fine powder. Moya Culinary Matcha has a strong, distinctive flavour with a pronounced, pleasantly sharp bitterness.

Moya Matcha Kulinarna

Pastry chefs and cooks around the world value matcha for its unique flavour, which adds refinement and depth to their creations. Its vivid green colour brings elegance to layered cakes, freshness to classic bakes, and even works beautifully in savoury sauces – such as a delicate matcha mayonnaise. It’s worth noting that the higher the quality of matcha used in the kitchen, the more efficient it is in use.

Moya Matcha Culinary is perfect for baking, desserts, and all kinds of confectionery. It also makes a great addition to lemonades and drinks where matcha is used as a supporting ingredient rather than the main star. Due to its pronounced bitterness, it’s not recommended for drinking with just water. For preparing matcha lattes or smoothies, we suggest using Moya Matcha Daily or Moya Traditional Matcha instead.

We are proud of the quality of our green tea and we consider ourselves experts in the field. Quality, colour, taste and price of matcha tea depends on many factors, such as region, rainfall and –primarily – the harvest from which the tea comes from. Matcha from the first harvest is the most delicate one because it is produced from the finest leaves that were exposed to direct sunlight only for a short period of time. Japan puts severe quality norms and the harvest volume is thus limited.
